The Environment – Our Blue Oceans Campaign

Our ‘Blue Oceans’ Campaign:

The great majority of the 7500 ships sunk during World War 2 are now known to be ‘slicking time bombs’

  • Still present in these wrecks are millions of cubic meters of unspent heavy fuel oils, munitions and Hazardous Noxious Substances (HNS)

  • As these wrecks decay, the containment of these materials becomes ever weaker

  • We are now entering the ‘danger period’ where these wrecks will start to leak their fuel oils and other HNS substances into the oceans

  • Most of these wrecks are not monitored as to their status and the threat they pose to the environment

  • We are currently working with the Republic of Ireland Coast Guard Authorities to provide shipwreck data identifying potential risks to the environment

  • We use the latest technology to accurately measure the levels of fuel oils still present within shipwrecks together with assessing the containment tanks integrity; this allows for risk assessments to be devised

  • We provide all findings to authorities so as to record and where necessary take proactive measures to prevent environmental  disasters

  • We provide these services free of charge as it’s our part in playing an active role in the prevention of pollution in our oceans

Operational:

Our mantra is low carbon and light touch:

  • The protection of marine and coast environments is paramount

  • Our chartered vessels burn low emission fuels and where possible, utilise hybrid battery technology to further reduce  carbon emissions

  • Whilst SalvOcean currently utilises hydraulic subsea equipment that operate with biodegradable synthetic oils, we are developing systems that replace these oils with natural seawater

  • SalvOcean is, and will continue to change the face of marine salvage for the better

How we work with Academia:

SalvOcean in collaboration with St Petersburg College (Florida) and their director of STEM education Erica Moulton offer the oceanographic fraternity:

  • The invitation for academic investigators (scientists/researchers/teachers) to accompany us at sea free of charge during our survey and salvage operations

  • SalvOcean will provide free of charge laboratory / office space onboard for academic investigators

  • SalvOcean will provide dedicated operational ship time for specific scientific tasks, however the majority of the investigator’s tasks will be tailored to be accomplished in parallel with survey and salvage operations

  • SalvOcean will cover all victualling costs for academic investigators, and for use of our onboard equipment (launch & recovery systems, ROV, subsea tooling, etc.) for the handling, deployment and recovery of investigators scientific equipment

  • Academic investigators will have access to all SalvOcean compiled survey data for use in their research/presentations

  • SalvOcean will invest a percentage of profits gained from successful salvage operations back into further related academic research programmes
